2/12/05 Saturday

Arose to another sleepless night due to the fact that my low blood pressure is not allowing them to give me my sleep meds. Shortly after I woke up I was told there was a CT scan of my liver and lungs scheduled for 8am. Came back to the room to the typical schedule of being grilled over by the disease and respitory specialists, followed by a visit from the attending doctor of the floor who rediscussed my upcoming chemo treatment which he planned to start on Monday. He also made me aware that they had ordered an MRI of my head and sinus cavity for later this afternoon. He is also extremely bothered by my low blood pressure so he ordered an EKG of my heart. The EKG read well but not being convinced he ordered an ultrasound of my heart as well. The ultrasound was pretty neat. They bring a large machine into my room and applying jelly to my chest and using a hand held wand applied against my chest she could move it around and take pictures of my heart. I was very lucky it was a Saturday. I had an actual doctor conduct the test instead of a technician. Much to my relief she said there was nothing abnormal with my heart that would cause low blood pressure. I went of the MRI of my head and no matter how many you have done they never get any easier. Later this evening once company left and things got quiet I decided to go in and shave. During shaving I couldn't help but notice that the tumor in my neck was as large as it has ever been. After noticing this I immediately let my nurse know who he himself let the attending oncology fellow on call know. It turns out that the oncology fellow on call is my primary doctor's fellow whom I see frequently. Being my primary doctors fellow he is very aware where thing have been and where things are going. He agreed that the tumor looks as large as it as ever been and had great concern that the tumors we can't see have followed suit. He did say one thing was for absolutely certain that we would have to start the chemotherapy tomorrow. This is I think the beginning of a very long and difficult road and I ask all of you to please pray now. Thank you for all your support and lets hope this is a turning point.
