02/10/05 Thursday

Today started a lot like yesterday but it seems like yesterday never really ended. My blood pressure dropped again last night which caused strong concern and kept the doctors in all night long. Once you think the night shift has ended and you can get some sleep their day shift begins. Due to the nature of my scenario I was the first to be seen by the attending doctors doing rounds this morning. They reiterated my upcoming chemo regime, potentially starting it on Saturday if my white blood cell counts are high enough. The infectious disease team came in this afternoon as well. They were called on board by the attending doctor due my low white blood cell count and high risk for infection. They feel the need to rule out every possible cause of these fevers.

They also sent a woman from the respitory department. She made me inhale and exhale through this God awful contraption which administered some sort of antibiotic to help prevent me from getting pneumonia (which I’ve been told happens often in long hospital stays).

The good news is that they gave me another dose of prednizone (steroid) today which seems to be balancing out my fever swings.
