1-6-05/Thursday

Dan went down for his first radiation treatment yesterday. They had to make a cast for his face so that the treatment only gets to where it is supposed to.. Unfortunatly, the "mask" wraps around the head, and is secured to the table while the radiation is received. (which usually only takes takes about five minutes) I haven't seen it yet but I hear it looks like the mask that Jason wore in the Halloween movies. Unfortunatly, they didn't tell him that they need to do six x-rays before they could start, which meant that he was pinned to the table in the mask for over 20 minutes. To make matters worse his sinus passages have been completely blocked for the past few days so he can only breath out of his mouth.

After the treatment he was sent to see his doctor for some regular blood work. Everything had been looking pretty good when he arrived for the radiation, including his temperature, but by the time he saw his doctor for the blood work his temperature had climbed to 102.5. He was shaking uncontrollably, and his teeth were chattering so bad that they hurt later that night. Needless to say they admitted him into the hospital that night. They've been giving him Tylenol to reduce the fevers, and Demoral to help with the shakes but still can't figure out what's causing it. His doctor thinks that it 'might' be the tumor/cancer trying to fight back against the treatments, but they just don't know yet.

He received his second radiation treatment today, which was a little shorter then yesterdays, but they had to take another x-ray so it wasn't as short as it could have been. He also went for some CT scans but won't have the results until tomorrow. Hopefully we'll know more then. He also found out that they'll be moving him to the 7th floor tomorrow morning, where the care is phenomenal, and he's everyone's favorite patient. He'll be in good hands there and a little less stressed knowing that he'll be getting the care he needs, when he needs it. By moving to the 7th floor he'll also be able to hook the computer up, so you should be hearing directly from him soon if he's up to it.
